Providing assistance to those currently undergoing cancer treatment

fuel the cure gas card program

Stridin’ & Survivin’ has two core missions – to raise awareness of cancer as well as raise funds for cancer research and patient services. While a majority of the funds we raise support cancer research, we really wanted to find a way to help families going through cancer treatment. While researching on ways to provide and fund this service, we learned about and donated over $30,000 to the St. Clare Share Gas Card program and then the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

Funding for Fuel the Cure began when our very own Debbie Wiemers began making and selling face masks with hopes to raise $250 for the program start. What we learned is that others in our communities also have a passion for providing financial assistance for cancer patients as that goal was hit quickly! While the pandemic lasted longer than any of us expected, Debbie’s work and efforts afforded us the opportunity and means to create “Fuel the Cure” in January 2023.

Currently, this program sends gas cards to patients going through cancer treatments in the St. Louis area. Our future goal for Fuel the Cure is to work with local cancer treatment centers to identify other needs that we can provide through “Fuel the Cure”.
